EDIT: After doing a couple of additional castings, one big problem I had was the amount of catalyst to add to the resin. I think I added too little.
Also, Silicone possibly makes the resin a bit tacky. I find that if you coat it with clear nail polish, it helps relieve a bit of that, but the cast has to be as dry as possible.

I can not stress this enough: POUR THE RESIN IN A VENTILATED AREA.
I'm used to fume-emitting crap through use of nail polish to paint clay items when I was little, but resin is ridiculous. It was five days of absolute plastic-scented, sinus-killing misery.
Resin ain't no joke... dawg.
Anyways, if you've got any questions, flop 'em here.
I put mine outside and the smell STILL got in from my garage to my room downstairs, to upstairs where mom was wondering what was going on! Lol it's worth it though. It looks super nice when you're done
Definitely cheaper, but there's some definite drawbacks like the casts are always a bit tacky. I'm not sure if that's me making a bad combination of resin or a reaction to the mold. I'm guessing it's the mold.
I just need to cast half a sphere for a way to dawn commission. It will be the eye in the hilt. Can i use one of those plastic containers you get to hold little toys from those gumball machine-things as a negative?
castiNcraft makes a latex mold builder. it's about $15 for the tub (@ Hobby Lobby) but holy heck will it last you forever. i made the molds for the Sailor scouts heart brooches/Moon's brooch from the Live action, the scout dome brooches, mars's earrings from the liveaction, venus's earrings, mercury's earrings, & the pearl feather hair clips & some random other shapes & it didn't even use 1/4 of the tub of mold builder!
Lol it's worth it though. It looks super nice when you're done
