The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

Not much happening. Didn't get paid this time 'round, have to wait another two weeks, bought plants with a store credit card, planted said plants while some teens had a fun conversation about drunk driving and how they like to drive drunk and go to Church, and came up with coffee mixes like The Michael Jackson.

Drew a picture for my boss today, too. Emo Hipster only orders a Venti 5 shot nonfat latte with an extra shot of despair. It's served iced like his soul in a hot cup. It's ironic.

Dang, I want to see Emo Coffee Hipster! You know I love Emo Mudkip.

Perhaps I'm far too amused by this. I don't believe I really know any emo people. I'm pretty sure I know a number of hipsters, but good luck getting them to admit it.

Don't know what to say about the teens, except that no matter how it ends, I don't think their flare for drunk driving will last very long......
